Richard's love of nature and wild life has compelled him
to capture these on paper in various art mediums. He began
his formal art training at Layton School of Commercial Art
in Milwaukee Wisconsin. The work of two particular pen and
ink artists, Frank Lohan and Arthur Guptill, intrigued him.
Studying their styles, he developed one that was uniquely
his own. He entered and won several competitions with his
pen and ink drawings. He started working with watercolors,
studying under accomplished watercolor artists. He entered
competition in a Grass Valley art show where he won an award
in watercolor. He then put together a one man showing of
antique cars in watercolor for the Roamin Angels Car show in
Grass Valley. His watercolor paintings of antique cars have
become popular with antique car enthusiasts.
Richard is presently working with pastels, acrylics and
watercolors to develop a series of nature paintings. His
work typifies vivid color contrast with delicate color
balance using vast ranges of color values. He's not afraid
to experiment with a bold approach to painting. He believes
experimentation with new and different techniques keeps him
fresh, helps his paintings and provides growth as a
painter.
He is a member of the Lake County Arts Council and has
had a successful season, appearing in several shows around
the lake this past year. Richard resides in Lucerne .
